A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man suffered stab wounds during an alleged assault on Christmas Day.

The incident happened on Dinsdale Road in the Hardwick area of Stockton at around 9pm on December 25, following reports of an altercation where a man had been assaulted.

A 35-year-old man was left needing treatment at the James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough for injuries to his chest, head and back.

He was hospitalised for several days.

Cleveland Police initially arrested a 29-year-old man in connection with the incident and he was released on conditional bail.

He was then rearrested by officers on Thursday this week.

A 31-year-old woman was also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and importing a prohibited weapon.

Cleveland Police are still appealing for anyone with any information or any witnesses who can help their investigation to contact them on the non-emergency 101 number.
