A MAN suffered a serious head injury after being hit with a pool cue, prompting an appeal for witnesses.

The alleged assault happened at Mr Grey's pub on Northallerton High Street in the early hours of Wednesday, December 18.

Police said the victim was struck on the back of his head and had to be taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital for treatment.

A man was arrested in connection with the incident, but has since been released on bail pending further enquiries.

On Wednesday, January 8, police said they were requesting the public's help to establish the set of circumstances surrounding the assault.

A spokeswoman for North Yorkshire Police said: "We are requesting the public’s assistance to help establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

"In particular, we would like to speak to anyone who was in the pub at the time who may have witnessed the incident."
