VISITORS to Durham Cathedral have less than a fortnight to view a selection of historic maps from its collection, including an early map of the city.
Rare maps, including one of the few first editions of what is regarded as the world’s first modern atlas, remains on show at the cathedral, as well others charting the city and surrounding area.
Cathedral exhibition assistant Shaun McAlister said: “Mapping the World is a chance for people to explore an extraordinary range of rare and exquisite maps, charts and atlases.”
The exhibition also features early charts of Durham, mapped in great detail over the centuries, due to the presence of the cathedral and castle.
Mapping the World is in the cthedral’s Open Treasure exhibition area until Saturday January 18.
