PLANS have been lodged for 189 homes to be built as part of the Wynyard Park development.

As part of the 2018 Hartlepool Local Plan, Wynyard is allocated to deliver 732 homes in the borough, with more homes on the Stockton side of the development.

The proposals have been submitted by Countryside Properties to create 189 homes at the site at Wynyard Park, with a mix of builds to “reflect the need for quality, family housing” in the area.

The site would be made up of 132 three bedroom homes and 57 four bedroom properties across a variety of different designs of house.

A design and access statement submitted by the applicant states the homes would be beneficial for the area.

It said: “The development at Wynyard Park, will provide an attractive, high quality designed area to live.

“The scale and character of the proposals will ensure that the scheme will contribute to and enhance the immediate surrounding area.

“The careful consideration of the structure, massing, streetscape, landscaping and materials ensures that the development is in context with the adjacent area creating an attractive, distinctive and aspirational scheme.”

Plans state the housing would bring significant investment to the area through planning contributions, including £47,250 for green infrastructure,  £115,119.90 towards cycling links, £85,541.40 towards sport provision, £47,061 towards play facilities and over £900,000 towards education.

Access to the main body of the development is taken from a roundabout junction at the Wynyard Park site from the primary access road.

A central area of public open space is proposed within the site along with private amenity spaces for each property.

The total site will take up about 16.9 acres and is currently vacant, with the land located just off the A689 Hartlepool.

Although allocated for 732 homes in the Hartlepool Local Plan, council planning officers previously said the Wynyard Masterplan could lead to about 900 new homes in Hartlepool if other land is used which does not currently have a use allocated to it.

The total combined size of the Wynyard site, stretching across both Hartlepool and Stockton, is expected to be bigger than the likes of Sedgefield, and somewhere in between ‘Saltburn and Yarm’ in terms of scale, according to planning officers.

A decision is expected to be made on the plans by the council planning department later in the year.
