THE annual New Year's Day Dip in Saltburn, organised in aid of local animal rescue and rehoming charity SARA, has seen dozens of locals braving the elements – some with their furry friends in tow.

Around 50 dippers took to the sea on New Year's Day near Saltburn Pier, some in fancy dress, others fully clothed, and some even daring to take the plunge in swimwear more appropriate for summer months.

A spokesperson for the charity said: "It was brilliant! A really good turn out and the weather was perfect. We haven't got the figure from the sponsors but from the buckets we raised £343."
