A MAN is fighting for his life after a three-vehicle crash on New Year's Eve.
The collision happened on the A690 Durham Road at Prospect Junction near to Premiere Road, near to the Lidl supermarket, at around 8.15pm.
Two people were taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle and two people were taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital by ambulance.
Northumbria Police said a 32-year-old man remains in a critical condition.
The road was fully closed by Northumbria Police while emergency services attended the incident.
A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said: “Enquiries are ongoing and police have asked anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have dashcam footage of the collision, to come forward.
