THE body of a woman was found at a house in Redcar on New Year's Eve.
Police were called to the address in Malham Gill, Redcar, ar around 2.20pm on Tuesday, December 31, by the ambulance service.
A Police spokeswoman said: "Sadly on officers’ arrival, the body of a woman was discovered inside the address.
"Her death is currently being treated as unexplained and a number of officers remain at the scene conducting inquiries and providing a reassuring presence.
"Our thoughts are with the woman’s family and friends at this very difficult time."
A 27-year-old man was arrested shortly afterwards and he will be questioned in connection with the woman’s death.
