EMERGENCY services are at the scene of a serious crash in County Durham.

County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service and Durham Police were called to the scene between Bishop Auckland and Crook, at 1.40pm.

The crash involved three cars, one male adult was cut free by firefighters using specialist cutting equipment.

The North East Ambulance Service was at the scene and a police spokesperson said seven people were being treated for their injuries.

Fire crews left the scene at 3.15pm but police continue to advise motorists to avoid the A689 Addison Road from Grange Bank to B6286 at High Grange.

Accident investigation teams are currently at the scene and the road is closed until further notice.
