A MAN whose death following an incident in Consett sparked a murder probe been named by police as David Cameron.

Officers were called following an altercation in Southernwood, Consett, just before 5.33pm yesterday in which the 47-year-old had suffered a serious injury.

Doctors and paramedics also attended but Mr Cameron, from Consett, was pronounced dead a short time later at the scene.

The Northern Echo understands he was a popular local bus driver, who worked for Go North East.

A 14-year-old boy who was arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the incident remains in police custody.

Durham Police said: "A dedicated team of officers and staff are working around the clock to establish exactly what happened.

"Anyone who has any information that could help the investigation and has not already spoken to police should call us on 101.

"Alternatively information can be passed on anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
