THE following cases were among those heard at Newton Aycliffe and Peterlee Magistrates’ Court during the last week.

MICHAEL THOMAS COLLIER of Eighth Avenue, Chester-le-Street, was jailed for four months after stealing bottled spirits, champagne and sweets valued at £125 from a Co-op in Pelton on September 29 and 30. The 40-year-old also stole meat valued at £70 from a Sainsburys in Chester-le-Street on September 30 and he took money from a charity box in Gateshead on October 23. He was ordered to pay a £122 victim surcharge.

MARK COX of Plawsworth, Chester-le-Street, was given an 18 month conditional discharge for failing to comply with a community protection notice prohibiting him from begging in Durham City. The 35-year-old also pleaded guilty to assaulting a female police officer on November 5 and using threatening and abusive words on the same date. Magistrates imposed a criminal behaviour order for two years and ordered Cox to pay £50 compensation to the officer.

JOHN PAUL ORD, 39, of York Square, Shildon, pleaded guilty to damaging a living room window, also in Shildon, on November 26 and breaching a restraining order. He was given an 18-month community order and must pay £100 compensation.

CRAIG DAVID BEASLEY, of High Northgate, Darlington, was jailed for 12 weeks consecutive for possession of 6.2g of diamorphine on June 26. A previously suspended 16 week prison sentence was also activated, taking the total length of sentence to 28 weeks. The 22-year-old was also ordered to pay a £122 victim surcharge.

RYAN WILKINSON, of Alnwick Close, Ferryhill, was fined £370 and disqualified from driving for 15 months after he was caught behind the wheel whilst over the legal drink-drive limit. The 29-year-old was also ordered to pay £32 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

RYAN LEWIS, 26, of South View, Fir Tree, was jailed after driving without insurance, driving whilst disqualified and whilst over the legal drink-drive limit on November 21. He also pleaded guilty to taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent and causing damage. He was jailed for 12 weeks and banned from driving for 36 months.

JONATHAN LIDDLE, of Lake View, Wingate pleaded guilty to driving whilst disqualified and driving without insurance on March 30 this year. The 27-year-old was sentenced to three months in prison suspended for 12 months. He was also given a further month in custody for using threatening behaviour towards a police office in Crook on May 31. Liddle must also pay £100 compensation.

ADAM MACHAN, of North Green, Staindrop, near Barnard Castle, was fined £500 and disqualified from driving for six months after driving without due care and attention on May 5. The 18-year-old must also pay a £50 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

SHELLY NEWTON, of West Moreland Avenue, Wallsend, was made subject of a community order for 12 months after stealing alcohol worth £100 from Asda in Stanley on August 8. The 37-year-old was also ordered to pay a £122 victim surcharge.

PETER BARKER, of Estoril Road South, Darlington, was given a 12 month community order for driving whilst disqualified and driving without insurance in Chilton on November 14. The 31-year-old was banned from driving for 12 months and ordered to carry out 100 hours unpaid work. He must also pay a £90 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

LEWIS RICHARD BURNICLE, of Harrison Terrace, Darlington, was fined £120 for driving whilst disqualified and without insurance on November 11. The 21-year-old was also banned for six months and ordered to pay £32 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

AYDEN SEAN CARRICK, of Thomas Court, Darlington, was given an eight week curfew for two counts of racially aggravated harassment on November 16. The 27-year-old must pay £100 compensation to the victim.

CRAIG ADRIAN POOLEY, of Thornfield Road, Consett, was fined £266 after driving whilst over the legal drink drive limit in Sedgefield on November 13. The 35-year-old was banned from driving for 12 months and ordered to pay £32 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

MARK GARY POPPLEWELL, of Greenbank Road, Darlington, was fined £173 for driving whilst more than double the legal drink drive limit on November 12. The 56-year-old was banned from driving for 17 months and ordered to pay £32 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

JAMIE LEE ARMSTRONG-CLIFF, of Front Street, West Auckland, was given a 12 month community order for driving whilst disqualified and without insurance on November 15. He was also given six penalty points and ordered to carry out 80 hours unpaid work. The 25-year-old must also pay a £32 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

COREY ALEXANDER LAUNDON, of Brook Terrace, Leyburn, was fined £100 for being drunk and disorderly on November 16. The offence was committed whilst subject to a conditional discharge for another offence of drunk and disorderly and the 24-year-old was fined a further £100. He must also pay £32 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

ADAM WHITE of Cheapside, Spennymoor, was ordered to pay £150 compensation after damaging a custody cell on November 9. He was also given a six month conditional discharge for being drunk and disorderly on the same date. The 32-year-old must pay £21 victim surcharge.

TERRY ATKIN, of Alexandra Terrace, Wheatley Hill, stole two North Face hooded jackets worth £260, a Fjall Raven jacket worth £75 and a Saloman coat worth £300 from Cotswolds between October 21 and 23. The 30-year-old also stole meat worth £100 from Aldi on November 7 and was given a conditional discharge for 12 months. He was also ordered to pay £735 compensation.

DUANE CORRIE, of Richmond Close, Darlington, was fined £400 for driving whilst over the legal drug-drive limit on June 12. The 32-year-old was also banned from the roads for 12 months and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £40 victim surcharge.

STEPHEN OWEN SMITH, of Ford Terrace, Chilton, was fined £120 for driving whilst over the legal drug drive limit on May 27. The 34-year-old was banned from driving for 12 months and ordered to pay £32 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

ALFRED PATRICK GALLAGHER, of Dinsdale Crescent, Darlington, was fined £40 for possession of diamorphine on November 13. The 20-year-old was also ordered to pay a £32 victim surcharge and £40 costs.

LUKE JAMES JOYCE, of Gloucester Place, Peterlee, was given a community order and an eight week curfew for trespassing at Oakley Service Station and stealing cigarettes, alcohol, energy drinks and shopping baskets on November 17. The 25-year-old was also ordered to pay £250 compensation.

DAVID PATRICK MIDDLETON, of Frankland Road, Framwellgate Moor, was fined £300 for driving without insurance on November 22. The 25-year-old was also given six penalty points and ordered to pay a £32 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

CONNA SINCLAIR, of Bradley Street, Peterlee, was given a conditional discharge for six months after causing £38 worth of damage to a custody cell in Peterlee on November 2. The 21-year-old was also ordered to pay £38 compensation.

NICHOLAS CHARLES WOOD, of Cobden Street, Darlington, was banned from driving for 36 months after failing to provide a specimen on November 14. The 34-year-old was also fined £40 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £90 victim surcharge.

JOE BENSON, of Burnside Road, Darlington, was given a 12-month community order after assaulting a police officer on November 4. He was also convicted of possession of a Class A drug and using threatening and abusive words to cause alarm and distress. The 35-year-old was ordered to pay £150 compensation and £85 costs.

CLIVE CRUMTON, of Hexham Gardens, Consett, was fined £963 after failing to notify the DWP about a change in his circumstances. The 59-year-old was also ordered to pay a £96 victim surcharge and £310 costs.

IAN ROBSON, of Browns Houses, Tow Law, was sentenced to twelve weeks in prison suspended for 12 months after driving whilst over the legal drink drive limit on November 1. The 44-year-old was also ordered to pay a £115 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

DAVID CARTER, of Northwood Drive, Browney, near Durham, was fined £385 for driving whilst over the legal drink drive limit on November 14. The 47-year-old was banned from driving for 18 months and ordered to pay £38 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

SARA LOUISE COPELAND, of Myton Road, Ingleby Barwick, was given a 12-month community order for three charges of assault on November 2. She was also ordered to pay £200 compensation.

TERRENCE MACKELL, of Arundel Walk, Pelton, was given a 12-month community order after he stole meat from Aldi in Chester-le-Street, confectionary and toys from Wilko’s and meat and chocolate from a service station between November 16 and November 29. The 32-year-old was made to pay £269.75 compensation.

COLIN ANTHONY QUINN, 38, of Raby Road, Ferryhill, was given a 12-month community order after stealing diesel fuel worth £200 from Doocey North-East on November 30. He must also pay £200 compensation.

CALLUM JAMES GOODWIN, 26, of Jutland Avenue, was fined £40 for using threatening words and behaviour to cause alarm and distress at Durham Railway Station on December 1. He was also found in possession of a Class B drug and must pay a £32 victim surcharge.

CARL NICHOLS, of Eden Lane, Peterlee, was fined £40 after stealing air fresheners from Home Bargains on September 30. The 35-year-old must also pay £32 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

CHRISTIAAN SHAWN ELLISON, 50, of Old Chester Road, Bebington, Wirral, was given a 12-month community order after beating a woman at Crimdon Dene Caravan Park on August 4. He was also ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work and pay £200 compensation, a £90 victim surcharge and £620 costs.
