THE westbound carriageway of the A66 was closed for nearly 24 hours after a lorry overturned between Scotch Corner and Barnard Castle.
The accident happened near Smallways at about 3.45pm on Thursday.
A spokesperson for Highways England said: "The westbound carriageway of the A66 was closed between the A1(M) and A67.
"Recovery of the lorry began at 8.40am on today and the road was reopened at 11.40am."
It is not yet known if anyone was injured.
