A POPULAR garden centre that was devastated by fire in April last year has reopened in a brand new building.

The new Strikes Garden Centre in Stokesley boasts 3,500sqm of retail space with a 300-seater restaurant, inhouse bakery, craft and clothing departments.

The centre had been operating from a temporary unit over the last year and Chief Executive David Yardley said: “After the terrible low of losing our garden centre in last year’s fire, we are all on a high to open the doors to our loyal customers and provide them with this fantastic new garden centre.

The Northern Echo:

"We would again like to express the biggest thank you to our customers for their support and patience over the last year whilst the build took place.

"This goes to all our staff at Stokesley and surrounding centres as well, for their hard work and commitment in getting the new garden centre open."

Christmas is on full display in the new garden centre; with five themes; a Christmas tree forest; lighting shop; Christmas miniature village and a singing reindeer.
