A MAGICIAN has made an application to open a city centre magic bar.
Magician Tom Bolton, of High Shincliffe, who is a member of the Newcastle Upon Tyne Magic Circle, has applied for a change of use for the premises in Old Elvet, Durham.
He wants to put on magic shows at the venue, at number 19 and a half, on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights but needs permission to change the permitted use of the venue.
Advertised as a custom built private magic room and bar, The Magic Corner will host shows for small audiences of up to 10 people, lasting for about ninety minutes.
According to the planning application, he has already secured a premises licence allowing him to sell alcohol until 11pm.
In a statement submitted to Durham County Council, he said: "The Magic Corner is a building in which a frequent magic show will take place with a sole purpose of being a show."
Alcohol is available at certain points through the show, and is restricted to people attending events at the venue.
No alcohol will be sold before 6pm, or after 11pm. the application adds.
Mr Bolton, who specialises in close-up magic, says he is thinking about using the venue to host workshops and parties for both adults and children in the future.
