HUNDREDS of festive fundraisers braved icy conditions yesterday to dress up as Santas, reindeer, penguins and elves – all in aid of charity.

St Teresa’s Hospice held its annual Santa Run in West Park, Darlington.

The St Teresa’s event, which has raised thousands of pounds for the Darlington hospice over the years, was held at West Park Academy for the sixth year running, with three races for competitors of different ages and abilities – a Santa Sprint, a Reindeer Run and an Elf Ramble for those bringing pushchairs and dogs.

The academy was turned into a festive wonderland with Christmas stalls and a cake tombola and the event was backed by Rotary Club Darlington, which handed out Santa hats.
