THE following cases were heard at Newton Aycliffe and Peterlee Magistrates’ Courts this week.

REECE THOMAS BROWN, 33, of Bourne Street, Peterlee, was sent to prison for two weeks after he stole two steaks, a gammon joint, a Lenor unstoppable and washing powder from the Co-Op in Easington. He failed without reasonable cause to surrender to custody at court on two occasions and failed to comply with supervision requirements released from a period of imprisonment. He also stole food and toiletries costing £27 belonging to Farm Foods.

LEE ROBSON, 37, of Field House Road, Gateshead, was fined £60 after he dishonestly made off from paying a Taxi fare. Robson was made to pay a fine of £22.60 and £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service.

ADAM SHAW, 40, of Hazel Terrace, Stanley, was up in court after he recklessly engaged in a commercial practice which breached the requirements of professional diligence. He was fined £500 and made to pay £639.39 compensation. He was also made to pay £50 to fund victim services.

MICHAEL ANTHONY BEDFORD, 34, of St Cuthbert’s Terrace, Bishop Auckland, had cocaine confiscated from his possession after he was caught by police. He was fined £120 and made to pay £32 to fund victim services. Bedford was also made to pay £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service.

PAUL MICHAEL HARNETT, 30, of Blenkin Way, Spennymoor, was disqualified from holding or obtaining a licence for 20 months after he was caught driving whilst under the influence of alcohol in Prince Bishops Car Park, in Durham City. He was fined £1,077 and made to pay £107 to victim services. He was also made to pay £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service.

KYLE ARRON PEACOCK, 21, of Tenth Street, Horden, was fined £120 after he used threatening or abusive words or disorderly behaviour in a racially aggravated incident. He was handed a restraining order and a three week suspended sentence.

JULIAN CHRISTIAN COOPER, 29, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to stealing four bottles of whiskey which cost £72 from Asda in Darlington. He was given a community order which included drug dependency treatment. He was also made to pay £72 compensation.

JOHN WILLIAM ADAMS, 34, of no fixed address, was given a six month suspended sentence after he was caught with a Stanley knife and a set of blades in the Prince Bishops Shopping Centre in Durham City. He failed without reasonable cause to surrender to custody at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court. He was made to pay £122 to fund victim services.

CRAIG CUNNINGHAM, 40, of Murphy Crescent, Bishop Auckland, was given a suspended sentence after he stole packets of crisps and biscuits from Cooplands Bakery. He was made to pay £50 compensation.

JULIE HARKER, 38, of Logan Street, Langley Park, stole two packets of sweets and a bottle of pop from a shop. She was discharged conditionally for six months and made to pay £21 to fund victim services.

DANNY ROBSON, 32, of Berksyde, Consett, pleaded guilty to driving whilst under the influence of alcohol. He was given a community order and made to pay £90 to fund victim services. He was also made to pay £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service.

JASON COX, 35, of no fixed address, was discharged conditionally after he failed to comply with a community protection notice. He was made to pay £15 to fund victim services.

MATTHEW AINSLEY GILLIGAN, 37, of no fixed address pleaded guilty to breaching a restraining order. He was sent to prison for 12 weeks due to his disregard for the court order. He was also made to pay £122 to fund victim services.

LESLIE JAMES THOMPSON, 32, of Luke Avenue, Cassop, was convicted of assaulting a woman on Tuesday, December 18. He was sent to prison for six weeks and handed a restraining order against the victim. Thompson was also ordered to pay £122 to fund victim services and made to pay £100 to the Crown Prosecution Service.

STEPHEN O’NEIL, 58, of The Dene, Consett, was disqualified from driving for 12 months after he was caught driving whilst under the influence of a controlled drug which exceeded the specified limit. He was fined £444 and made to pay £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service. He was also ordered to pay £44 to fund victim services.

BRANDON SHERIDAN, 20, of Pelaw Avenue, Stanley, was convicted by the court after he stole a Kia car. He was given six penalty points following the incident. Sheridan was also fined £100, made to pay £32 to fund victim services and ordered to pay £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service.

PATRICIA HEWITT, 35, of Churchill Square, Gilesgate, pleaded guilty to stealing a pair of jeans from the YMCA shop in Newton Aycliffe and assaulting a woman. She was given a community order with a curfew requirement and electronic monitoring. Hewitt was also ordered to pay £90 to fund victim services and £200 to the Crown Prosecution Service.

ROBERT SAMPLE, 36, of Nelson Street, Bishop Auckland, was fined £40 after he used threatening or abusive words of behaviour during an incident on November 7. He was also ordered to pay £32 to victim services and £85 to the Crown Prosecution Services.

LIAM CLAY WOOD, 20, of East Parade, Bishop Auckland, was given a community order after he used threatening or abusive words of behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm of distress.

ANDREW WAYNE JONES, 35, of Phillips Close, Auckland Park, was up in court after he sent an electronic message that was categorised as grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene of menacing character. He was given a restraining order and fined £110. Jones was also made to pay £100 compensation, £30 to fund victim services and £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service.

KELLY TRAYNOR, 30, of Cleadon Street, Consett, was sent to prison for eight weeks after she broke into a shed and stole CDs. She was made to pay £120 compensation.

PETERJOHN KALIS, 48, of West King Street, Helensburgh, was given a suspended sentence after he assaulted a woman causing actual bodily harm. He was also given a restraining order which prevented him from contacting the victim.

CHRISTOPHER PAUL WATSON, 65, of Moor Road, Staindrop, used his vehicle for private hire without having the appropriate licence. He was fined £110 and made to pay £30 to fund victim services.

SASHA AITCHISON, 28, of Edward Terrace, Stanley, pleaded guilty to littering after she threw down a cigarette. She was fined £40 and made to pay £30 to fund victim services.

BILLIE JAY SPOTTISWOOD 24, from College View, Esh Winning, was found guilty after he dropped a cigarette butt on Morrison’s supermarket premises. He was fined £220 and ordered to pay £30 to fund victim services.
