A LONG-TERM inmate accused of a workshop attack on another prisoner is to stand trial next year.
Albert Willett, 38, denies a charge of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent on the victim, arising from what was said to have been a chisel attack during a clash in a work session at Frankland Prison, Durham, on September 18, 2018.
Durham Crown Court was told he claims self-defence, saying that he came under attack first, on the basis that the victim was pressuring him to repay a drug debt accrued within the prison
The case was adjourned for a trial to be staged at Teesside Crown Court, starting on April 27, next year.
Willett, from east London, appeared at court via video link from HMP Leicester, where he is now being detained.
