FAMILIES can delight in the festive lights as they embark on a journey of discovery to meet the Mad Hatter, the Queen of Hearts and, of course, Alice on their magical trip.

The spectacular Alice in Winterland display at Lightwater Valley this Christmas, features hundreds of giant illuminated sculptures illustrating stories from Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland and Alice Through the Looking Glass tales.

The colourful features include a giant chess board, Mad Hatter's tea party, a four-metre tall Alice lantern, a luminous trail and glowing garden among the other attractions.

Visitors can follow the luminous trail and immerse themselves in a glowing garden with massive mushrooms, illuminated tulips and even a flamingo or two as the evening becomes curiouser and curiouser.

The full theme park won't be open however families can enjoy some traditional fairground fun including a spin on the carousel and take to the night sky on the Skyrider.

For younger visitors the Indoor Play Area and Young Fun Rides will be open, to entertain guests of all ages.

The adventure is open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday until the end of December as well as Monday 23 and 30. For further details visit www.lightwatervalley.co.uk
