A DRUNKEN Ukrainian sailor is awaiting approval for his visa application before he can return to the UK to face justice.
Valeriy Velychko was arrested after his 23,600-ton ship, Kohl 1, was prevented from leaving Teesport, Middlesbrough, in July.
The 53-year-old had 138mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath - more than six times the limit of 25mcg for being in charge of a ship - and skirmished with police who called to the ship.
He admitted being drunk while operating a ship, and obstructing a police officer in the execution of their duty earlier this summer.
Teesside Crown Court heard that the last time he was due to be sentenced he was denied entry to the country by immigration officials and was immediately sent home.
Judge Stephen Ashurst adjourned the short hearing until December 16 when it is hoped that the defendant will be able to return to the country to be sentenced.
