THE emergency services were at the scene of a house fire in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
At around 1.30am, the police, fire service and ambulance service attended an address on Pallister Avenue in Middlesbrough.
Matt Bland, who witnessed the fire, told The Northern Echo: "There were three fire engines, two ambulances and several police officers on scene.
"The fire brigade got the house fire under control and within ten minutes."
Mr Bland claimed a man, believed to be an occupant of the house, had died.
A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called to reports of a house fire and sent two ambulances and a clinical manager to the scene.
"The first call came in just before 1.30am and the second came at around 1.38am."
