A MAN who committed a racially-aggravated attack on a shop owner with a pint glass could face a prison sentence.
The warning was given to Ashley Turner after he admitted charges arising from the incident in Middle Street, Consett, on October 12.
Turner, of Coates Close, Stanley, was accused of being racially abusive to a man in a shop, before an argument which saw both emerge from the shop, where the glass attack took place.
The victim suffered a gash injury to his head in the incident, shortly after 1pm.
As Turner left he was said to have made further racially abusive remarks.
Appearing at Durham Crown Court, the 25-year-old defendant, admitted racially aggravated assault, assault by beating, plus damaging property, a box van.
He denied causing further damage, to a bus, and a charge of affray.
Those pleas were accepted by the prosecution and Judge James Adkin adjourned sentencing until November 29, asking for a probation report on Turner’s progress on a previous community order.
