TWO people have died in a crash involving a Mercedes-Benz and heavy goods vehicle at rush hour.
At around 8.30am on Monday (November 11), a grey Mercedes-Benz and a white Scania HGV became involved in a crash on the A59 near Knaresborough.
The crash, which happened between Flaxby and Goldsborough in North Yorkshire, resulted in the death of two people who had been reportedly travelling in the Mercedes.
Police investigating said they had since launched a dash-cam footage appeal to motorists who could have been travelling in the area, at the time of the crash.
A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said: "Officers are appealing for anyone with information that could assist the investigation - and who hasn't already spoken to the police - to come forward.
"They would also like to hear from anyone who saw the grey Mercedes car travelling between the A1(M) and Goldsborough, and from anyone with dash-cam footage that may be relevant.
"Please call North Yorkshire Police on 101, and ask for the Major Collision Investigation Team, or email mcit@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk.
"Please quote reference 12190207840 when passing information."
The road has remained closed for the past several hours while the emergency services work on the scene - motorists are being advised to avoid the area.
