DOCTORS and NHS workers in Darlington have been given assurances over the future of the town's hospital by the Secretary of State for Health.

Matt Hancock visited the town on Thursday and was met by the Conservative Parliamentary candidate Peter Gibson.

He attended a discussion with NHS professionals where he reaffirmed his commitment to Darlington Memorial Hospital, reassuring all residents of its importance and security.

Mr Hancock guaranteed the future of the hospital and further investment and support for the facility.

Mr Gibson welcomed this news and reaffirmed his own commitment to the support of vital medical services in the town, discussing increased GP provision.

Mr Hancock said: “A huge thank you to Peter for inviting me to Darlington. Peter and I discussed the health needs of Darlington, and he was clear about the vital importance of Darlington Memorial Hospital to local residents."
