A WANTED man has appeared in court charged with a string of burglaries and thefts across County Durham.

Michael Collier appeared at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court yesterday to face three counts of robbery, two counts of burglary, one of aggravated burglary, two thefts and one count of possession of a knife in a public place.

The 40-year-old, of Eighth Avenue, Chester-le-Street, did not enter any pleas and was remanded in custody.

He was arrested by officers on Sunday, November 3, in the Chester-le-Street area and later charged with the robbery of Spar, in Wolsingham, on October 28, of Tesco Express, in Sacriston, on November 2 and of another Spar, in Carville, on November 2.

Collier was also charged with aggravated burglary at Admiral Casino, in Chester-le-Street, on October 29, theft from a person at Aldi, in Newton Aycliffe, on October 31 and theft from Brighthouse, in Chester-le-Street, on September 24.

He is due at Durham Crown Court on December 5.
