A FIREWORKS display has been cancelled because of the bad weather.
Durham Police, which was due to host the bonfire night event at its headquarters in Aykley Heads, Durham, tonight, has decided to cancel the display.
A police spokeswoman said: "We’re really sorry to say that due to inclement weather and poor ground conditions, we’ve had to make the difficult decision to cancel this year’s fireworks display.
"We understand many of you will have been looking forward to the event and we apologise for any inconvenience this may cause."
It will be issuing further information regarding refunds shortly.
The city experienced heavy rain overnight, with more forecast in the coming days.
This was due to be the second fireworks display by the force since it relaunched the popular event in 2018.
It ran for more than three decades before the police decided to stop running it in 2011.
