A WOMAN had to be cut free after her car flipped onto its roof in a crash yesterday morning.

The main road through Burnopfield, near Stanley, was closed while emergency services attended the scene of the incident near the Co-op store, which was reported at about 6.40am.

The road was reopened later on Tuesday morning .

A spokesperson for Durham Special Constabulary said the B6310 Front Street was closed in both directions, between Syke Road and Elm Grove.

The crash affected Go North East bus services M6, X70 and X71, who were diverted via Hobson Industrial Estate.

Service 823 to Tanfield School was unable to serve most of Burnopfield due to the accident, and started at the Lintz Estate.

A spokeswoman for Durham Constabulary said: "We were called at 6.40am today to reports of a one-vehicle collision in which a car had overturned on Front Street, in Burnopfield.

"Paramedics and firefighters also attended as the driver was trapped in her car. Thankfully she did not suffer any serious injuries.

"The road was closed to allow for recovery of the vehicle, but has since reopened."
