THERE were long delays at Scotch Corner on Friday afternoon due to a collision on the A66 westbound at around 1pm.

Highways England said it had been working all afternoon to establish how much traffic was trapped due to the collision.

North Yorkshire Police said the crash happened just beyond Scotch Corner roundabout and involved three cars – a Ford Focus, Hyundai and a Volvo.

Some motorists and passengers were taken to James Cook University Hospital.

The road was closed for recovery of the vehicles between Scotch Corner and the A67 turn off.
