THE following cases were heard by County Durham and Darlington Magistrates Court, sitting at Peterlee and Newton Aycliffe.

ANTHONY PETER WOOD, 48, of HMP Durham, pleaded guilty to entering Ferryhill Workingmen’s Club as a trespasser on June 10 and stealing £1,565. He was committed to prison for eight weeks and ordered to pay £500 compensation.

JOHN JAMES MCLEOD, 26, of Seven Acres, Great Lumley, Chester-le-Street, admitted driving a dark coloured BMW on Front Street, Chester-le-Street, on July 21 whilst disqualified from holding a licence and without insurance. He was sentenced to 18 weeks in prison, banned from driving for 26 months and ordered to pay a £122 victim surcharge.

GAVIN ANTHONY SHORT, 34, of Church Street, Ferryhill, pleaded guilty to stealing a charity box from BP Garage, Ferryhill, on September 29. He was committed to prison for six weeks and ordered to pay £70 compensation. He also admitted stealing seven boxes of Quality Street chocolates from Co-op Retail Store, Ferryhill, on October 10 and was ordered to pay £35 compensation, and dishonestly diverting electricity of unknown value.

DANIEL LUKE COOPER, 26, of Grey Terrace, Ferryhill, admitted stealing two legs of lamb, a bottle of Echo Falls wine and razors, to the value of £54, from Morrisons in Bishop Auckland on April 9. He was ordered to pay £54 compensation.

SHAUNA LEIGH GRAHAM, 27, of Eden Court, Horden, admitted driving a Mercedes C220 without due care and attention, otherwise in accordance with a licence, without insurance, failing to stop or after hitting a lamppost on Stamfordham Road, Newcastle, on Friday, August 15 and failing to report the incident to police within 24 hours. She was fined £120, ordered to pay £32 victim surcharge and banned from driving for six months.

SEAN GREEN, 22, of Lilac Park, Ushaw Moor, pleaded guilty to driving a Vauxhall Corsa on the A167 whilst over the drug drive limit on June 24. He was fined £120, ordered to pay £85 costs and £30 victim surcharge.

ANTHONY HOWARTH, 35, of Friars Row, Burnopfield, pleaded guilty to possession of class B drug cannabis on July 9 at Burnopfield. He received a 12 month conditional discharge and was ordered to pay £21 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

SEAN SCOTTER, 30, of Oswald Road, Hetton le Hole, admitted driving a Mitsubishi vehicle on the A690 West Rainton on March 7 otherwise in accordance with a licence and without insurance. He was fined £120 and ordered to pay £30 victim surcharge and £85 costs. His driving licence was endorsed with six penalty points.

GRAHAM SMITH, 29, of Shelley Square, Easington Village, admitted having a bladed article, namely a lock-knife, in a public place, Moncrieff Terrace, Easington, without lawful excuse on September 16. He was committed to prison for six months and ordered to pay a £122 victim surcharge. He also pleaded guilty to causing £150 damage to a police cell and was ordered to pay that amount in compensation to Durham Police.

ROBERT ASKEW, 33, of Wood View, Esh Winning, pleaded guilty to stealing £6.55 of wine from McColl’s Newsagents, Durham, on October 17 and in doing so breached a suspended sentence order. He was sentenced to a total of 24 weeks in prison and ordered to pay £6.55 compensation.

TRACY ANNE NILSEN, 56, of Valley Terrace, Howden le Wear, Crook, admitted speeding in a 30mph zone at Low Jobs Hill, Crook, on September 11. She was fined £120 and ordered to pay £30 victim surcharge and and £85 costs. She got six penalty points on her licence.

CLAIRE COPELAND, 40, of Oak terrace, Leadgate, Consett, pleaded guilty to five thefts from the Co-op at Consett on separate occasions in October. She received an 18 month condition discharge and was ordered to pay £50 compensation. She was also ordered to pay £100 compensation to the owner of a mobile phone she stole at Leadgate, on October 12.

LEE HENLEY, 31, of Tyne Avenue, Leadgate, admitted stealing a sound bar and two electric razors from Asda, Stanley, on September 23, and watches, fragrances and electricals from TK Maxx in Durham on October 10, and two sound bars and headphones from Asda, Stanley, on October 14. He was sentenced to a total of 18 weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months, and ordered to pay a total of £328.01 compensation.

DARRELL ION, 36, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to destroying a shop window at Greggs, Crook, on October 20, and was ordered to pay £500 compensation.

ADAM JOHN RATCLIFF, 33, of Wylam Avenue, Darlington, pleaded guilty to failing to provide a specimen of blood to police when required. He was given a community order, fined £50 and ordered to pay £90 victim surcharge and £85 costs. He was also banned from driving for three years.

GARY DAVID SMART, 34, of Alexandra Terrace, Evenwood, was convicted in his absence of stealing bread, ham and gin from Aldi in Bishop Auckland on August 15. He was fined £60 and ordered to pay £32 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
