TWO men have appeared at court charged with historic sex offences against young detainees at Medomsley Detention Centre near Consett.
Alexander Flavell, now 86, appeared at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court this morning charged with one count of misconduct in a public office, one of indecent assault, one charge of buggery and four charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
The offences date back to between 1968 and 1981.

Ian Nicholson, now 74, appeared at court to face one charge of misconduct in a public office, three counts of buggery and four counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
The alleged offences took place between 1967 and 1974.
Both men, who spoke only to confirm their name, will appear at Teesside Crown Court on November 21.
