The following cases were heard at Teesside Magistrates Court this week:

HELEN TURNBULL, 40, of Blake Street, Hartlepool, a former teaching assistant who had previously been convicted of being involved in a relationship with a boy, was fined £80, ordered to pay £40 costs and a £30 victim surcharge, after pleading guilty to not informing police of a change of address. She was placed on the sex offenders’ register for seven years in 2014.

KELLY MARIE DALY, 34, of West Dyke Road, Redcar, was handed a 16-week prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, after pleading guilty to three charges of assault by beating and damaging an iPhone. The reason given for the sentence was the serious nature of the repeated assault and domestic violence. She was also ordered to comply with a six-month alcohol treatment programme, and was ordered to pay £500 compensation to her victim.

JAMIE JACKSON, 36, of Camden Street, Parkfield, Stockton, was fined £40 and ordered to pay compensation of £50 after pleading guilty to stealing a large hanging basket and flowers. He was also ordered to pay a £32 victim surcharge and £45 court costs.

SHELLEY JADE JEFFERSON, 26, of Avondale Close, Grangetown, Middlesbrough, was given a community order and ordered to carry out 40 hours of unpaid work in the next year, after admitting entering Morgans Bakery in Normanby as a trespasser, with intent to steal. She was also ordered to pay £100 compensation, £100 costs and a £90 victim surcharge.

ANTHONY ANDREW WOOD, 31, of Stirling Way, Thornaby, pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis and assaulting a police officer. He was given a 12-month conditional discharge for the drugs offence, fined £90 for the assault offence, and ordered to pay £250 court costs after changing his plea to guilty from not guilty. He was also ordered to pay a £32 victim surcharge.

BILLY DAVID NUGENT, 27, of Mount Pleasant Grange, Stockton, was jailed for 12 weeks after being found guilty of driving while disqualified and driving without insurance. He was jailed because of a ‘flagrant disregard for court orders’. He was also ordered to pay £310 court costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

DANIEL EDWARDS, 37, of George Stephenson Boulevard, Stockton, admitted carrying a stanley knife in a public place and was jailed for two months. The offence was aggravated by the defendant’s previous criminal record. He was ordered to pay a £122 victim surcharge and £85 court costs.

SHARON GILL, 47, of Grassington Road, Middlesbrough, admitted assaulting a prison officer and was fined £80. She was also ordered to pay £100 compensation, £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

COURTINE LARSEN, 25, of Petch Street, Stockton,admitted failing to ensure a child attended school regularly and was handed a conditional discharge. She was also ordered to pay £100 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.

LISA HARBRON, 41, of Petch Street, Stockton, pleaded guilty to possession of heroin and was handed a six-month conditional discharge. She was ordered to pay a £21 victim surcharge and £40 court costs.

COREY MITCHELL, 25, of Cato Road, London, was found guilty in his absence of a public order offence at Middlesbrough Rail Station on October 1. He was fined £220, ordered to pay £85 costs and a £32 victim surcharge.

DUANE BONAS, 35, of High Row, Loftus, pleaded guilty to assault, damaging a wheel clamp, a rear light, and breaching bail conditions. He was given a 12-month community order, and ordered to pay a total of £390 compensation.

MARK ROBINSON, 34, of Cowper Road, Stockton, and WAYNE ROBINSON, 33, of Sargasso Walk, Thornaby, both pleaded guilty to threatening unlawful violence and were each handed a 12-month community order and ordered to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work. They were also ordered to pay £85 court costs each and an £85 victim surcharge each.

AIDEN JOHN KYDD, 18, of Hawthorne Road, Redcar, was handed a nine-month community order with rehabilitation activity after admitting two charges of assault by beating and one charge of indecent assault. He was also ordered to pay £300 compensation and £40 court costs.

DARREN PETER ELLIS, 41, of Lonsdale Street, Middlesbrough, was fined £120 after admitting stealing food and razors worth a total of £228.03 belonging to Morrisons. He was also ordered to pay a £32 victim surcharge.

ETHAN ROBERT COWENS, 21, whose address was given as Durham Prison, admitted stealing cash and bank cards, attempting to steal cars, stealing a mobile phone, stealing two cans of lager, and three counts of fraud by using a stolen bank card. He was sentenced via videolink and was handed a 16-week prison sentence, ordered to pay a £122, £85 costs, and £30 compensation.

JOHN PAUL TUMILTY, 32, of Westbourne Road, Hartlepool, was given a conditional discharge after admitting two counts of stealing alcohol, stealing a car, and a public order offence. He was ordered to pay a total of £138.98.
