East Grange Farm

The Northern Echo:

Halloween and pumpkins just go together, like Christmas and Christmas Trees. Which is how East Grange PYO Pumpkins got started.

“We have been selling Christmas Trees for around 5 years and thought: ‘what else combines people having fun and our farming background? A pick-your-own-pumpkin patch was the next step,” says Richard from East Grange Farm. “In June we planted 2500 seedlings - which was hard work - but it's been really rewarding watching them grow.”

But it hasn’t been easy. “The weather really has been against us. It's gone from bone dry to total downpours. But we’ve persevered, and now have around 2000 pumpkins ready to pick.”

East Grange PYO Pumpkins are open on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20, October, and Saturday 26 until Thursday 31,  from 10am to 3pm. They are located two miles from the A1, junction 61, near to Durham City, in the village of High Shincliffe. Entry and parking are free. Prices range from £3-£7, depending on size. Cash and card payments are accepted. Suitable footwear is essential (it is muddy!) No need to book, but it is advisable to check the Facebook page first for up-to-date opening information.
