A YOUNG trampolinist is jumping for joy after winning her first gold medal at an international tournament.

Fourteen-year-old Holly Robinson, from Consett, won the 13-14 category of the Loule Cup in Portugal recently, her first medal representing England.

Holly, a year ten pupil at St Bede’s in Lanchester, qualified in first place out of 39 competitors after the qualifying rounds to go in to the top eight final last week.

Holly, who has been trampolining since she was six, said: “I feel it is really good because I have never won a gold medal at an international before.

“I enjoy the competing and doing the routines. My coach thinks of the routines.

“There are some complicated somersaults. My parents get more nervous than me.”

Holly lives at home with Clare, a finance manager, and Kevin, who is employed as a bus driver.

She trains four times at Consett Leisure Centre with Belle Vue Trampoline Club and is coached by Gemma Proud and Jonelle Pye.

Last month she won bronze in the British Championships in Birmingham.

Her mother, Clare, said: “This is her first year with the England team. She has been on different squads before that. Me and her father went over to watch her.

“We could not believe it when she won the gold medal. We are over the moon.”
