THE Co-op is searching for passionate people in County Durham who would like to make a difference in their communities

The Member Pioneers, who will be employed for 16 hours a month, will work with local causes supported by the Co-op to tackle issues and make things happen locally.

The Co-op wants to recruit seven member pioneers to work with its members, food stores, funeral homes, local causes, and other co-ops to help support and connect them to others in their local communities.

There are currently vacancies for a number of roles in Darlington, Bishop Auckland, Barnard Castle, Crook and Shildon.

Russell Gill, head of co-operative and local engagement at the Co-op, said: “We’re looking for people who have the passion to bring communities together effectively, believe in the power of co-operation, and who hold the wellbeing of their community at the forefront of their mind, to truly make a difference.

“Their sole focus will be to bring our colleagues, members and local causes together to find new ways to co-operate and get things done in their communities.

“They will listen and inspire other members to get involved and help arrange local activities as well as spreading the word about the great things our Co-op is doing such as Fairtrade and Endangered Spaces and why we’re a different kind of business.”

Successful candidates will receive a full induction and training to prepare them for the role and they will be encouraged to connect with other Member Pioneers to share ideas and support each other.
