AN Olympian will cut the ribbon on a new Aldi store when it opens this month.

The 1,254sq m store, on Queen Street, Crook, will open on Thursday, October 24, at 8am and the first 30 customers through the door will receive a free bag of fresh fruit and vegetables from Aldi’s Super 6 range.

Manager Steve McGurk and his team will be joined by Olympic bronze medallist, gymnast Amy Tinkler.

Mr McGurk said: “We can’t wait to open the doors to the new store in Crook. It’s set to be a special day as we’ll be celebrating the opening of Aldi’s first store in the area and having Olympic hero, Amy Tinkler, join us will make it a morning to remember.”

Miss Tinkler said: “I’m so excited to be opening Aldi’s new store, it will be great to chat to customers and a lovely way for me to thank Aldi for its endless support of Team GB.”

The store will have large chillers and freezers dedicated to fresh, British meat products, a Food to Go section at the front of the store, a fixture along the back wall for beers, wines and spirits and a section of health and beauty products. The shop will open Monday to Saturday, 8am to 10pm, and Sunday, 10am to 4pm. Aldi’s Specialbuys from electricals to garden tools will be available every Thursday and Sunday.

Local charities and foodbanks in the Crook area can register with Neighbourly, a community engagement platform that links businesses to charitable organisations in their community, to receive regular donations of surplus food from the supermarket. To do so email aldi@neighbourly.com.
