POLICE are appealing for information after a man was taken to hospital with puncture wounds to his back following a suspected stabbing incident at the weekend.

Officers were alerted after getting a report of concerns for a man in Selkirk Crescent, Birtley, near Chester-le-Street, at 3.34pm on Saturday.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Emergency services attended and found a man with puncture wounds to his back that were consistent with a stabbing. He was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

“An investigation was launched and a 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent to commit grievous bodily harm. He has been released under investigation and inquiries are ongoing.

“It is believed that all parties involved were known to each other.”
