The following cases were among those heard at Teesside Magistrates' Court in the last week.

JOSHUA DAVID SENIOR, 25, of Primrose Way, Hull, was found guilty of being drunk in a designated sports ground when Middlesbrough FC played Hull on April 13 this year. He received a 12-month conditional discharge and was ordered to pay £262 costs to the Crown Prosecution Service. He was also ordered to pay a £20 victim surcharge. An application for a football banning order was refused.

NEIL GERARD HENRY, 43, of Willow Close, Thornaby, admitted assaulting a woman and a police officer, on August 30 of this year. He was handed a 12-week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months. He was also ordered to pay £200 compensation.

CATHERINE CARTER, 42, of Holder Street, Redcar, received a six-month conditional discharge after pleading guilty to failing to ensure a child went to school. She was ordered to pay £100 court costs and a victim surcharge of £32.

IAN MICHAEL MAUGHAN, 32, of Westbourne Street, Stockton, was handed a nine-month community order after pleading guilty to stealing coffee and chocolates, to the value of £57.46, belonging to Tesco. He also admitted obstructing a police officer in the execution of her duty. Maughan was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £90.

IAN HANLON, 43, of Scurfield Road, Stockton, was jailed for 20 weeks after being caught driving while disqualified twice last month, and drink driving twice the month before, at Shildon and in Stockton. Magistrates imposed the jail term 'because the defendant has a flagrant disregard for court orders and because the offence was aggravated by the defendant's record of previous offending'. He pleaded guilty, was banned from driving for another 60 months, and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £122.

CIPRIAN NICOLAE CHISAREANU, 26, of Parliament Road, Middlesbrough, pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly in Newport Road, Middlesbrough, on June 23. He received a six-month conditional discharge, was ordered to pay a £20 victim surcharge and £85 costs to the Crown Prosecution Service.

BRETT MICHAEL BELL, 27, of Thorntree Gardens, Middleton St George, Darlington, pleaded guilty to drink-driving, on Clarendon Road, Norton, Stockton, on September 15. He was fined £426, ordered to pay a £42 victim surcharge of £42 and £85 costs to the Crown Prosecution Service. He was also disqualified from driving for 17 months.

STEPHEN WARD, 19, of Tithe Barn Road, Stockton-on-Tees, pleaded guilty to criminal damage to items worth £464, belonging to Mobile Extra, on Castle Way, Stockton. He was fined £80, ordered to pay £464 compensation, a victim surcharge of £32, and £85 costs to the Crown Prosecution Service.

THOMPSON CONTRACTS LIMITED, of Cold Hesledon Industrial Estate, Seaham, County Durham, was fined £22,000 after a prosecution by the Health and Safety Executive. The company indicated a guilty plea to failing to ensure the health and safety of employees after MDF sheets fell on to a member of staff. It was also ordered to pay £1,258 in court costs.

SHAUN MICHAEL EELES, 34, of Goldington Road, Bedford, pleaded guilty to assaulting a nurse at James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough. He also admitted a public order offence, on the same date, September 28. He was given a community order with a six-week curfew requirement, meaning he will be electronically tagged and have to remain in his home between 8pm and 6am each day. He was also ordered to pay £25 compensation, ordered to pay a £90 victim surcharge and £85 costs to the Crown Prosecution Service.

ASHLEY PAUL MCQUILLING, 28, of The Green, Billingham, admitted possession of cannabis, drink-driving, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence, and driving with no insurance. He was handed a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay a £32 victim surcharge and £85 prosecution costs. He was disqualified fromd rivingt for 12 months. A forfeiture and destruction order was made for destruction of the cannabis.

GARY BUTTERFIELD, 33, of Gresham Road, Middlesbrough, pleaded guilty to making threatening phonecalls to Cleveland Police. He was given a community order with an alcohol treatment requirement and ordered to pay a £90 victim surcharge as well as £85 costs.

BRADLEY CARNEY, 21, of Larkspur Road, Marton Manor, Middlesbrough, pleaded guilty to criminal damage after breaking a window of the Highfield Hotel. He also admitted being in possession of cocaine. He was fined £80, ordered to pay £100 compensation and also £85 in costs.

ANDREW LEE CUMMINS, 25, of Newport House, Billingham, pleaded guilty to driving while under the influence of drugs. He was fined £80, ordered to pay a £30 victim surcharge, £85 costs and was disqualified from driving for 12 months.

HANNAH RALPH, of Brancepath Close, New Marske, was found guilty of failing to ensure a child attended school regularly. She was fined £220 in her absence, ordered to pay a £30 victim surcharge and costs of £200.

KERRY SAMANTHA LAWN, 29, of Laburnum Road, Brotton, near Saltburn, was fined £120 and handed a 12-month driving ban after pleading guilty to drink-driving. She was ordered to pay a £32 victim surcharge and £150 costs.
