EMERGENCY services including an air ambulance and fire crews were called to a serious crash involving a HGV and a car.

Fire crews from Skipton, Ripon and Harrogate were called to an incident on the A59, near Broughton, at around 8.30pm yesterday, Wednesday October 2.

The male driver of the car, a Vauxhall Vectra, was trapped inside the damaged vehicle and had to be cut out by the fire brigade.

He suffered leg and facial injuries and was taken to hospital in an air ambulance, where his condition is not yet known.

The road was closed by North Yorkshire Police while both vehicles were recovered.
