STARTING today, The Northern Echo will be publishing a weekly round-up of results from the region’s magistrates’ courts.

The following cases were heard at Newton Aycliffe and Peterlee Magistrates’ Courts in the last week.

NOAH HOGG, 20, of Burnhope Close, Crook, was found guilty of driving a Ford Fiesta on the A690 while under the influence of cannabis. Hogg was fined £175, made to pay a £30 victim surcharge and forced to pay £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service. The defendant was also disqualified from driving for a year.

ROBERT ANTHONY GILLESPIE, 32, of Upper Church Street, Spennymoor, was given a suspended prison sentence after pleading guilty to assaulting a man in Durham City. Gillespie was also made to pay £200 compensation.

AARON ANDREW KIRTON, 30, of Norton Avenue, Stockton-on-Tees, pleaded guilty to driving a VW Golf without insurance. Kirton was given six penalty points on his license, fined £200, made to pay a victim surcharge of £32 and made to pay £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service.

KEIRAN EDWARD MANNIN, 19, of Regent Street, Shildon, breached a restraining order by visiting a home in Bishop Auckland and was committed to Durham Crown Court for sentence.

GRAHAM STEPHEN LEE JACKSON, 17, of School View, Ferryhill, was disqualified from holding a licence for a year after he drove a Renault Scenic, without the correct category license.

DAVID JOHN SCOTT, 50, of High Street, Langley Moor, was found guilty of driving while under the influence of alcohol in Durham City. Scott was disqualified from driving for 30 months, given a £85 victim surcharge fee and will be made to pay £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service.

ROCKY KYLE BRENNAN, 33, of no fixed address, was sent to prison for 16 weeks following a theft. Brennan was also made to pay £100 compensation.

CHARLENE AMELIA WATSON, 29, of Cartmel Terrace, Darlington, was sent to prison for 18 weeks after stealing meat produce to the value of £41 from Aldi. Watson was also forced to pay £20 compensation alongside a £41 fee.

IAN ABLE ARMSTRONG, 45, of Kilburn Street, Shildon, was found guilty of driving a Ford Transitt without insurance in West Auckland. Armstrong was disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for 12 months and was made to pay a £90 victim surcharge.

SCOTT WILLIAM DONKIN, 26, of Lancaster Hill, Peterlee, was issued with a warrant for arrest after being found guilty of assault by beating.

PAUL NEIL FOSTER, 34, of Derwentwater Road, Bensham, was given a suspended sentence of 18 weeks after being found guilty of making a threat to kill. Foster was also made to pay a £115 surcharge to fund victim services.

JONATHON DEFTY, 29, of Milton Lane, Peterlee, was found guilty of a motoring offence after failing to stop his Land Rover Defender after being asked to do so by a constable in uniform. Defty was disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for 12 months. He was also made to pay £90 to fund victim services and given a Crown Prosecution Service free of £85.

DYLAN BOND, 25, of Lily White Terrace, Easington Lane, pleaded guilty after creating a scrap metal business without a licence. He was fined £120, made to pay a cost of £259.18 and given a surcharge fee of £30 to fund victim services.

LEE MICHAEL ATKINSON, 45, of Hundens Lane, Darlington, pleaded guilty to harassment and was given a restraining order, a community order, forced to pay £85 to fund victim services and £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service.

COURTNEY MARY ELIZABETH WALTERS, 22, of Institute Terrace, Toronto, pleaded guilty to assault by beating and was made to pay £50 compensation, £90 to victim services and given a community order.
