A SECURITY operative working on the big screen has transformed his driveway into a film set bringing his love of horror to life.

Jon Hinson of HSS - Hinson Security Services, in Trimdon, is regularly spotted behind the scenes on films and TV shows which include Transformers, The Fast and the Furious and Downton Abbey.

His time on film sets has inspired his love of special effects and helped him create his Halloween wonderland which attracts hundreds of youngsters from across the region each year.

Mr Hinson – previously a mural artist –is inviting brave youngsters to his doorstep for a game of trick-or-treat.

Last year saw him eagerly await their arrival in his haunted cemetery dressed up as Freddy Krueger, from A Nightmare on Elm Street.

He said: "I've always loved anything morbid and spooky. I'm a big fan of horror films and have become more and more passionate about them as I've gotten older.

"Last year I dressed up as Freddy and sat on a chair pretending I was a statue until the kids got to the door where I jumped out – it was great."

Mr Hinson's partner, Victoria Tiffin, whose roles include working as a centre development manager at Trimdon Village Hall, said Mr Hinson started making horror themed creations three-years-ago after she asked him to make a Halloween tree for a Mexican themed children's event at the venue.

She said: "All the kids had decorated pumpkins by painting them instead of carving them and it made me want a Halloween tree, within half an hour he made it. It was amazing and I think his Halloween sets have just grown from there.

"I think he is really helping in the community by creating all these props as the kids love it. We went through so many sweets last year and all the parents got involved and filmed the reactions. He brings everyone together and I think he's the only person around here that makes things like this."

This year the theme will be a creepy garden and will include props including venus flytraps and gravestones.

Mr Hinson will be at the centre of his display when he dresses up as Jason Voorhees from the Friday the 13th franchise.

He will be surrounded by his creations which he says has been made out of all kinds of materials, he said: "I use absolutely anything and everything and lots of the props have been made of wood and foam.

"It will be great on Halloween night when we have all the strobe lights and the music."

Fortunate trick-or-treaters will be able to catch a glimpse of Mr Hinson when he becomes Jason Voorhees on October, 31, at 13, Meadow Road, Trimdon.
