A MAN who was found unconscious in the driving seat of a vehicle with crossbow bolts has been arrested after allegedly assaulting police officers.

Yesterday afternoon, officers at Cleveland Police were called to reports of a man unconscious in the driving seat of a vehicle on Gilmour Street in Thornaby, near Stockton.

Officers attended the street and the man was taken to hospital to be assessed. Whilst at the hospital the man reportedly assaulted two police officers.

CS spray, a machete and crossbow bolts were recovered from the vehicle on Gilmour Street and the vehicle was also recovered.

Police arrested the man, 28, on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs, possessing an offensive weapon in a public place, possessing a weapon for the discharge of a noxious liquid/ gas/ electrical incapacitation device/ thing, theft of a motor vehicle, driving without insurance and two counts of assault by beating an emergency worker.

The man currently remains in custody.
