JAMIE Smith will receive a swift Worcester City recall amid injury concerns ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Heather St John’s (Saturday, 3pm).

Manager Ashley Vincent allowed the left-back to link up with Malvern Town on dual registration with Smith scoring from the bench on his debut at Tytherington Rocks last weekend.

The plan had been for him to stay with Town for “the foreseeable future” but fellow wing-back Dan Okojie was withdrawn 16 minutes into last Saturday’s 4-0 defeat at Sporting Khalsa.

And with doubts over key personnel alongside the absences of Craig Jones and Sean Brain through suspension, Smith comes back into contention much earlier than anticipated for a match against the last team he faced in City colours.

“We have a few knocks but there will be no complaints, we will manage it as best we can and this is what we have a squad for,” said Vincent.

“I want a better performance than I got last week but I have put my faith in this squad and it is an opportunity for people to stake their claims.

“Spots are probably a little more open after the Khalsa result and with Sean and Jonah out people will have to come into the side.

“The two suspended lads are the only ones definitely missing and the boys with knocks will be given as long as possible to be in contention."

Vincent will have Joe Hawkins back after missing the Khalsa loss, much to his relief.

“I think Joe has made a huge difference since coming in, he gives us that physical presence,” said Vincent.

“He plays his height. You look at some big lads that don’t do that but he dominates in the air like a good, honest old-fashioned centre-half.

“We missed him at Khalsa, definitely, although I would say they fully warranted their win.”

The Saints clash sees City return to the scene of last month’s 1-0 FA Cup loss to the only side that remains unbeaten in the Midland Football League Premier Division.

“There will be times and situations in this game that will be totally different to the last one, no two games are ever the same,” said Vincent.

“We want to concentrate on ourselves and the way we play, imposing ourselves on the game.

“There was only one team in it during the first half in the cup game so I won’t get drawn in by the fact they beat us 1-0 with their only effort on goal.

“Then again, they are the only team in our league that hasn’t lost which speaks volumes for them.

“They are putting points on the board and are in a confident vein so it will be another good test for us.

“We have to go there to meet the challenge head on and when we have people out, that’s when we all stand up to do it for them.”
