A PROMINENT alliance of Darlington schools is opening its doors to parents this October to showcase what makes its schools special.

Mowden Federation of Schools will welcome parents considering sending their children there to tour its facilities, and to see for themselves the excellent provision it offers the children in its care.

The Federation, which includes Mowden Infant School and Mowden Junior School, provides for children aged 4 to 11 years old, and has been consistently been rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted.

Parents are invited to visit the schools on Tuesday, October 1. Visitors will have the chance to ask questions of staff, tour the classrooms, speak with current pupils, and even sample a school meal.

Head teacher Peter King said: “We’re rightly proud of our high standards and strong teaching record at Mowden, but we also recognise that many of the most important things to learn aren’t necessarily on the national curriculum.

“As a school, we don’t focus on one element of education to the exclusion of all others; instead, we strive to ensure our pupils receive a well-rounded education, which helps them develop into well-rounded young people, prepared for the next stage of their education and their lives.

“All our students join in the Mowden Mile, which means they get the chance to be active during the day while developing a relaxed approach to exercise, and our junior netball team have had a fantastic season, winning the local league.

“We also implement regular character-building visits including an outward-bound residential involving high ropes activities and a ‘leap of faith’, which challenge students in a safe and controlled manner.

“Our music provision has gone from strength-to-strength as well, and we recently had a great time taking part in and winning the Darlington Schools’ Eurovision Song Contest.”

Two school visits will be held on Tuesday, October 1. The first will take place at 9.30am, and a second at 6pm.

Anyone wishing to visit is asked to confirm their attendance to the school office on 01325 380 820, and must bring a form of photo ID for safeguarding reasons.
