THOUSANDS of visitors flocked to enjoy one of the biggest agricultural shows in the country.

About 20,000 guests and 5,000 entries turn out each year to North Yorkshire's Stokesley Show.

This year's event, held on Saturday, marked the 160th Anniversary of Stokesley Agricultural Society and organisers promised it to be its biggest yet.

Competitors had the chance to show off their livestock, produce, horticulture and crafts, with a packed schedule of categories, from horses and cattle to dog and children's competitions.

As well as a variety of trade stands and food retailers, families enjoyed entertainment from bicycle stunt teams, gundog displays, birds of prey and performances from North Skelton Band.

This year, the show welcomed John Seymour as president for 2019 who has been involved with Stokesley Show for more than 40 years as cattle steward and commentator. He has also been a member of The Stokesley Agricultural Council and, together with the Vice Presidents, oversees and implements the many changes over the years.

Speaking about the day, Mr Seymour said: “Over the years the show has changed and developed in many ways, but has always maintained its very broad appeal to a wide audience.

"The show has tried to demonstrate the links between farming and the food industry and the consumer.

"In this internet age, and with all the supermarkets, it is important to remind people where their food comes from and the efforts made to get it to their plate.

"This year’s show aimed to be the best ever with lots of attractions for young and old."
