A QUICK-THINKING teenager who helped a schoolboy after he fell under a bus has received an award.
Karla Fish, 14, was on her way home from St Bede’s in Lanchester in July when the 12-year-old boy’s foot was run over, leaving him badly hurt.

She used her mobile phone to contact the emergency services and live streamed the incident to paramedics to show them what was happening.
Karla used her PE shirt to stem the flow of blood and looked after him until help arrived.
She has now received a Young Hero Award from Durham Constabulary.
Inspector Keith Wardle, from Consett Police, said: “If it wasn’t for Karla’s quick thinking and calm response these injuries could have been life-threatening due to the amount of blood loss.”
