A MAN is being sought by police following an assault in Newcastle which left another man fighting for his life in hospital.

At about 3.20 am on July 8 police received a report of a fight in Times Square in Newcastle city centre.

Emergency services attended and found that a 23-year-old man had been assaulted and was in a serious condition.

He was taken to hospital by paramedics where he received treatment for a life-threatening head injury.

The man survived but he has suffered life-changing injuries and remains in hospital.

An investigation into the assault is ongoing but police have now released a picture of a man they need to trace.

He was in Times Square at the time of the incident and may be able to assist police with their enquiries.
