EMERGENCY services are currently at the scene of a fire at the Redcar Bulk Terminal .
Cleveland Fire Brigade were called at 4.20pm to the blaze.
A large pile of processed metal is understood to be alight, sending thick plumes of smoke high into the air.
Firefighters are expected to spend several more hours yet fighting the flames.
A spokesperson for the South Tees Development Corporation said: “A stockpile of scrap due for export on the Redcar Bulk Terminal site has caught alight.
“Cleveland Fire Brigade is in attendance and have contained the fire.
"There is no danger to people or property and we would like to thank them for their swift action.”
