A BODY of a man, believed to be that of Nicholas Harper who was reported missing in February, has been found. 

Police said the body of man was found on Saturday afternoon by a member of the public in woodland near to Cowhouse Bank car park in Helmsley, near Thirsk.

Officers attended the scene, and have since confirmed they believe the body is 50-year-old Nicholas Harper.

Trainee teacher, Mr Harper had last been seen leaving his home in Pickering on February 7.

After his disappearance his car had been found at Cowhouse Bank car park, while police had carried out searches of the vicinity and wider area. 

On Monday, police said they did not believe there were any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death. 

It is understood formal identification has yet to take place.
