A 30-year-old man has been stabbed multiple times outside of Aldi in Spennymoor.
Police placed a cordon outside of the supermarket following the assault.
A 46-year-old man has been arrested following the incident.
The injured man was taken to James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough.
Officers have arrested a suspect and he is currently in custody.
A spokesperson from the Great North Air Ambulance confirmed they attended the incident at 3.05pm on Monday.
A doctor and paramedic were flown to the scene.
A police spokesperson said: “We would like to reassure residents that this was an isolated incident and enquiries are ongoing.”
