A NUMBER of rail services in the region have been cancelled due to a shortage of staff this morning.

Northerm Railway has confirmed that the 7.40am from Darlington to Bishop Auckland has not been able to run. It was due to arrive at Bishop Auckland at 8.06am, calling at North Road, Heighington, Newton Aycliffe and Shildon en route.

The return which was due to run all the way to Saltburn, arriving at 9.34am has also been cancelled.

It would have called at Shildon, Newton Aycliffe, Heighington, North Road, Darlington, Dinsdale, Allens West, EaglescliffeThornaby, Middlesbrough, South Bank, Redcar Central and East, Longbeck, Marske and Saltburn.

The 9.44am from Saltburn to Bishop Auckland, due to arrive at 11.06am, will be started from Middlesbrough.
It will no longer call at Saltburn, Marske, Longbeck, Redcar East, Redcar Central and South Bank.

A spokesperson for Northern said the changes are 'due to a shortage of train crew'.
