A PASSENGER on an Arriva bus which allegedly dumped a 14-year-old girl close to the A1 near Scotch Corner has defended the bus driver.
An internal investigation is underway by Arriva after a woman said her daughter was dumped off the bus by the driver after mistakenly getting on the wrong one.
But passenger Scarlett Christensen said the teenager had got on the wrong bus, the 26 to Richmond, as the number 12 to Hurworth was late. Just before Scotch Corner, the girl realised she was on the wrong bus.
She claimed the driver gave her the option of staying on the bus and getting back to Darlington within two hours, or getting off at Scotch Corner and catching another bus back to Darlington within minutes.
Ms Christensen said: "He stopped at the bus stop and explained to the girl to be careful crossing the street. He said explain to the driver you got in the wrong bus and they will take you back to Darlington. He gave her two choices and she picked to get off the bus."
