FIREFIGHTERS spent two hours extinguishing a blaze at a house in a County Durham village last night. (Saturday, August 24)
Emergency services received a number of reports of smoke billowing from the upstairs and roof of a house in Luke Street, Trimdon Colliery, just after 8pm.
County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service sent appliances from Peterlee and Wheatley Hill stations to the scene, followed by an aerial ladder platform to access the top of the building.
At one point, flames could be seen in the roof.
Four firefighters wearing specialist breathing apparatus entered the house to tackle the fire which caused extensive damage to the end-terrace property.
Nobody was reported as being in the building or hurt as a result of the incident, the cause of which is not known.
The fire engines left the scene between 10pm and 11pm and police remained at the scene.
It is understood that the gas and electric supply for Luke Street was turned off and the road was closed to traffice whilst crews tackled the fire.
